My goal as a piano teacher is to help each of my students develop their skills as a pianist and to foster in them a lifelong love of music. Each student is unique, and I work to continuously inspire and challenge them to progress their musicianship in an atmosphere that is both fun loving and supportive while striving to help them achieve a high skill level as rapidly as is possible for that individual.
I have been teaching private lessons from my El Dorado Hills studio since 2001. I teach all levels and ages from six through adult. My main requirement is that the student has the desire to play piano and is willing to commit to regular practice and lesson attendance.
I am an active Member of the Music Teachers' Association of California (MTAC) and was Vice President of the Sierra Branch of MTAC from 2012 through 2018. Active membership enables me to enroll my students in the Certificate of MeritTM piano program. I have successfully prepared many students, including adults, for all levels of the exams from the beginning levels up to and including the Advanced Level. For more information on the MTAC and the Certificate of Merit program go to www.mtac.org.
I received a Bachelor of Arts in Music (concentration piano) from California State University Sacramento where I studied piano with Steinway artist Richard Cionco. I received an AA in Music from American River College where I studied piano with Dr. Joe Gilman and Tatiana Scott. I performed both solo piano and chamber music at the Sulzbach Rosenberg International Music Festivals in Germany in 2010 and 2012. In addition, I participated in the Interharmony Music Festival at Acqui Terme Italy in 2017. I have played piano and keyboard for church services as well.
I studied voice privately with Julliard trained Hong Shen Li and performed solos in voice recitals locally and as soloist in two separate productions of Handel's Messiah. I also studied voice with Tina Harris at American River College and studied with her privately as well. I have been a member of numerous choirs throughout the Sacramento region for two decades, and most sang with the Sacramento Choral society on their 2013 Italy tour. I have sung both solos and in the choir for church services for many years, and have assisted with directing the choir on a few occasions.
Although my main focus at lessons is the study of piano, I do take advantage of my extensive singing experience to coach my students who wish to sing along while they play piano.
